State Content Standards and Curriculum Frameworks

 WARNING TO PARENTS:

Under "Local Control" Districts are no longer "REQUIRED" to offer Instruction that aligns with minimum State Content Standards and Curriculum Frameworks. Instructional time and subject content is left to the discretion of the individual classroom teacher/principal/district.

The CDE is "RECOMMENDING" that Districts continue to align instruction to minimum State Content Standards and Curriculum Frameworks in order for students to perform well on state tests and college boards; but California no longer "REQUIRES" alignment.

This is important  because it means students may not receive instruction in all required chapters of the curriculum. For example an Algebra I Class. If the teacher cannot cover all the chapters, a student may still get an A in the class, but not be prepared for the entire Algebra I subject matter on the College Boards. No one will know until a student takes their College Board and scores poorly. By that time, it is to late to fix for that students's test scores for admission into college and may limit their ability to get into a selective four year college or university.

College Readiness Starts With 6th Grade Math Placement.

If your goal is for your child to attend a 4-year college after high school they must complete a minimum of three years of math and pass Algebra II with a C. Simply meeting CUSD's graduation requirements will limit your child to Community College after high school.

Trustee Lynn Hatton-Hodson White Paper Closing the Gap of College & Career Readiness

Trustee Hatton- Hodson is considered a leading expert in College and Career Readiness, yet she does not do what she recommends for her paying clients for the students of CUSD. While other districts are improving college readiness for their students; CUSD is in decline. There is something very unique about CUSD's curriculum, the use of technology to data mine students, the requirement for every student to take CCP with Naviance embedded into core subjects, and the requirement for every CUSD student to take PSAT through Kahn Academy without asking parents to OPT IN as required by Kahn Academy.
