Please provide financial documentation for the following requests, and indicate if the costs of the following Professional Development and Teacher Training was paid for out of the General Fund or CUSD's Teacher Effectiveness Grant?

The Following represents $982,180.00 in payments for Professional Development and Teacher Training that was completed PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL.  Staff should be required to get Board Approval PRIOR TO executing contracts. CUSD should not be using General Fund money to pay for Professional Development. This is almost $1 million dollars that should be returned to the General Fund to pay for Art, Music and Science for every student.

REQUEST #1: 

Math Curriculum Development- This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 49 teachers attended a two day event... June 6, 2017 and June 7, 2017 and were paid for 282 hours @ $30 per hour = $8,460 per person X 49 people = $414,450.00 

36 hours X $30.00 X 5 people = $5,400.00

Attend IC Summit PL- This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 43 teachers participated in this professional learning from June 5, 2017 to July 26, 2017 and were paid for 350 hours @ $30 per hour = $10,500 per person X 43 people = $451,500.00 

 

REQUEST #3

CTE Career Technical Education- This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 6 teachers participated in this professional learning from February 2016 to April 2017 and were paid a total of $690. Plus the District had to pay for subs.

Attend PLC Meetings and Workshops- This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 2 teachers participated in these meetings and workshops from April 2017 to June 2017 and were paid a total of $600.00. Plus the District had to pay for subs.

Attend PLC Meetings and Workshops- Literacy Adoption Summer Training. This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 12 teachers participated in these meetings and workshops from June 7, 2017 - July 31, 2017 and were paid a total of $25,920.00.

AVID Expo. This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 17 teachers participated in this Expo from May 15, 2017 - July 26, 2017 and were paid a total of $30 per hour X 2 hours= $60 per teacher X 17 teachers = $1,020.00

 

REQUEST #7

Discovery Education Leader Retreat. This item appears to have happened PRIOR TO BOARD APPROVAL. 65 teachers attended this retreat on June 5, 2017 and were paid $105 = $6,825.00 + CUSD paid the cost of the Training + subs to cover the teachers time out of class. The contract states that the 2017-18 costs are $88,000.00

As you look at the Salaries and Benefits of these people consider:

In 2016-17 all employees received around an 8% increase in compensation that is not reflected in these numbers.

Since these are from 2015-16 some people may have been full-time which reflects the high total compensation.

By Contract Full-time employment is for 185 days of work:

Does it make financial sense for taxpayers to have these part-time employees and pay such exorbitant benefits for part-time work?

Right now the Teachers Union and the district have filed an impasse due to a lack of adequate funding to provide the increased compensation employees want and a minimum education for CUSD students.
